Los Abrigos

Los Abrigos, a small fishing village between the major development of 'Golf del Sur' and the town of El Medano is famous for its fish restaurants and is my base for this adventure so all of my bus routes start and end here. Equally they can be used from Las Americas and Los Cristianos which are the main bus stations here. My origional 'Los Abrigos' photo album was a look around the village and the surrounding area but it has expanded to become 'a year in the life of Los Abrigos' too as I have tried to capture the various activities, events and changes as I spend my year here. To make it easier to view the photographs I have created some sub-albums with marker photographs in the main album to maintain the chronology.

How this all started...

I accepted voluntary redundancy at the end of August 2011 and used the small payout to purchase a good laptop, a reasonable digital (DSLR) camera and a Kindle with GPS. I hadn't taken photos for years and as I was about to move around I had decided that the Kindle would replace my collection of books I was always going to read. The next question was "What to do next?" A friend of mine had been telling me to visit Tenerife for years so I thought why not! Easyjet provided a cheap ticket and a browse around the websites provided a nice little apartment in Los Abrigos. Los Abrigos - my base

View my Los Abrigos, Tenerife Photo Album Bus Routes: 470[Los Christianos] [Granadilla] and 483[Costa Adeje] [El Medano]. Having arrived and settled in to my apartment it was time to explore the village I had adopted for the next 12 months. First of all I took some photos from the windows as, true to their word, I couldn't get much closer to the sea. The taxi from the airport had dropped me at the top of the village square and I had walked down to meet David from Los Abrigos Properties (he has since sold the business) who had arranged to meet me at noon as I had picked one of the many 'public holidays' to arrive on. We then walked along the street 'Playa Grande' to my apartment block. Los Cristianos - Burial of the Sardine

Bus Routes: 483[Los Cristianos, P Americas Est] to Los Cristianos. Return: 111[Santa Cruz] to Las Chafiras then taxi home. As you can see from the first photograph in the album I was not alone when I caught the 18:31, which actually arrived at 18:45, to Los Cristianos!  We arrived in ample time for the start of the procession at the 'Cultural Centre' where the 'Sardine' had been lying-in-state.
