Puerto de La Cruz Carnival Parade

Bus Routes: 470[Granadilla] to San Isidro, 111[Aeropuerto Sur, P Americas Est] to Airport South, 343[Aerpurto Norte, Puerto Cruz] to Puerto de la Cruz.
Return: 103[Santa Cruz sin parada], 111[Aeropuerto Sur, P Americas Est] to Las Chafiras, taxi home.

Having used the direct route to get to Puerto de La Cruz last time I decided to try out a different route this time to see if I could do it cheaper. The Carnival parade did not start until 16:00 so there was plenty of time available. I caught the 470 to San Isidro getting off at the roundabout (rotunda) and waiting for the 111 at the same stop to take me back over to the airport. This second leg of the journey was 'no charge' as you cannot get directly to the airport from Los Abrigos and I wasn't moving 'forward'. At the airport I caught the 343 to Puerto de la Cruz saving me 4-5€ on the journey. The downside was that, for some reason, Titsa miss out the bus at 10:50 on a Saturday so I had to wait until 11:50. The upside, I got some photographs around the airport without objection from anyone.

This route gave me my first opportunity to see 'Aeropuerto Norte' which is much smaller and only appeared to have one bus stand unlike the 3 for Titsa and the row available for tourist company concessions. Mout Teide appeared like a mirage to my left as we travelled along and I managed to get a couple of photos before we arrived back at Puerto de La Cruz station. I wandered through some of the streets lower down from last time stopping at the Plaza del Charco for the 'Menu of the Day' at the cafe/bar in the plaza itself, then along to my vantage point on the corner of Plaza Reyes Catolicos to take some photographs of Carnival 2012 parade. It is a very civilised affair here with wooden chairs lining the route for people to sit on, probably reflecting the more elderly tourist at this end of the island. The parade commenced at a very civilised 16:00 which mean less chance of my batteries running out. It is a much more intimate affair, no barriers holding the crowd back, they politely asked us to move back as wider floats past. As usual a great deal of enthusiasm and imagination went into the parade, the theme at Puerto de La Cruz was 'recycling' but there were a fair number of 'hippies' there and some floats I recognised from Santa Cruz. I hope you enjoy the photographs as it happened.

The parade to some 2.5 hours to pass me and was still wending its way around the route as darkness fell. The streets all around were thronged by revellers out for a meal at the many open tables set up in front of the restaurants and cafe/bars, listening to the many 'sound sources allong the route or just chatting to each other in friendly groups. I wandered back towards Plaza del Charco where the 'street party' was due to start at around 20:00 and, as the buses run most of the night between Puerto and Santa Cruz and the 111 runs most of the night from the latter time was no object to my enjoying the festivities.
