The Dress Rehearsal

Bus Route: 470[Granadilla] to San Isidro, 111[Santa Cruz], Tram from the Bus Station to La Laguna.

One of the advantages of exploring the island and making friends is the privilege of going behind the scenes, whether it is a carnaval or, in this case, a local amateur production. Just as in the UK we have a wide range of enthusiastic armatures producing a myriad of events and entertainments so to in Tenerife. Not only will you find the big shows geared to the tourist but, if you look, there are also numerous shows produced by groups of people who have a common passion for a particular skill. In this case a group of young women who meet each week to dance, particularly belly dancing, just because they love it. They call themselves the "Moreiba Tribal Troupe".

One day they decided to put on a show and these photos record the hectic dress rehearsal prior to the one off production the following night at the Aguere, La Laguna. It was all planned and rehearsed in theory but, as armatures, they only had access to the theatre the night before the production and you can imagine how hectic it was to check lighting, sound, video and make sure that your carefully arranged steps actually fit on the stage! In the end they produced an amazing show which they hope to take on tour around Tenerife in the future.  I hope that I may be able to arrange a link to photographs taken of the production on the Saturday night so that you can see the splendour and skill of the main performance. As you can see from the programme the show covered a wide variety of dance through the years. Combuned with archive film footage and clever graphics and lighting I just sat back and watched in amazement!!!!
