No bus a boat this time

When creating a blog the advice is to stick to the subject but occasionally things fall outside of the 'bus' trip but, I think, are worth including as part of my adventure in Tenerife. On Saturday Hose Lois and Teresa invited me on a boat trip with a friend of his who owns the boat. This is moored in the marina along Playa Americas and they travelled down from Santa Cruz for a day out picking me up on the way. On arrival we took the provisions down to the quay whilst 'skipper' carried out his checks. A coffee was called for after the struggle to find parking spots as there appear to be more cars than boats. On the way back to the boat I took a couple of shots of a strange boat which allows you the diving experience without the training. Figure it out from the photos!  Once the skipper was ready we loaded the provisions and boarded. Edging the boat out, it is a ten birth twin motor affair, was no mean feat as the marina was quite busy on the day.
Once out into open sea the skipper put his foot down and off we went along the coast heading to the north-west, our ultimate destination was Punta de la Galera, the bay where you will end up if you walk down from Masca. The view of the coastline and resorts from the sea is something to behold. The contrasts of climate with clouds over the mountains down to the sunshine over the water and, passing La Gamera the cloud which permanently hangs over the island, all show up in stark relief. America has Mount Rushmore but the natural rock formations from the volcanic eruptions give Tenerife its own natural equivalent. The vertical bands contrast with the horizontal layers of rock and are still expanding slowly each year.

Arriving at the bay we settled in for a veritable feast, salad and a selection of sandwiches, fresh fruit, wine and champagne followed by a swim.

The pirate ship passed us whilst at anchor and the 'ferry' boats came and went. After swimming and sunbathing we eventually set off on the return journey we set of to spot some whales. Not so easy to photograph but there are some attempts here.

All in all another excellent day in good company!
