Los Cristianos Carnival Week
Bus Routes: 483[Los Cristianos, P Americas Est] to Los Cristianos.
Return: Either the 483[El Medano] at 22:10 (last bus) or 111[Santa Cruz] at 00:30 to Las Chafiras then taxi.
(If you are on holiday in Los Cristianos or Playa Americas walk)
I have mentioned in other 'Carnival' blogs that the 'Grand Parade' and 'Burial of the Sardine' are the end of a week or more of activities the grander the carnival the more there are. In fact, once the carnival is over and the theme is announced the designers will start on the costumes for next year. I thought that I would show you some of the run up week at Los Cristianos.
We have the fair ground and all of the stalls and catering outlets though on a smaller scale than Santa Cruz but pretty spectacular never the less, you can still win a goldfish here, there are all of the types of stalls we enjoyed as kids from darts to shooting to pick a number to well you name it really. Along with the fair we have candy floss and 'hot dog', whole meals in foil wraps and anything you could wish to drink but I haven't seen a drunk yet.
The 'Carnival Queen Gala' last night was three hours of free entertainment in the midst of the throng. The theme of Carnival this year is the 'Wild West' and that was acted out by the members of the various competing 'Comparsa' and other groups. The Carnival Queens entered and showed off their costumes in front of a panel of judges. There was a guest performance by the champion Murga from Santa Cruz too.
There will be a 'Junior' gala tonight and there is a 'Drag Queen Gala' in the Auditorio on Saturday night. Various groups will perform around the area during the day on Saturday and there are workshops on 'make up' and 'costume' as well as the fair and lots of activities for children. (Photos added to this album) All this before the 'Grand Parade' on Sunday followed by the 'Burial of the Sardine' on Monday. So you see, if you are lucky enough to be on holiday in the area over 'Carnival' you have a full week of entertainment and amusement for the children and at reasonable cost too!
