Beer and Tapas at Los Abrigos - don't drink and drive!

Bus Routes: 470 from Granadilla or Los Cristianos, 480 from Las Americas or El Medano.

No need for me to travel to this event, a gentle pounding heard during the morning proved to be the testing for the sound system being set up in the Los Abrigos plaza.

The new board has gone up listing the activities taking place throughout July and August the first being the Beer and Tapas Festival commencing at 11:00 Saturday 7th July 2012 followed by a dance in the plaza till the early hours of Sunday morning. Stalls had been set up on the road down to harbour the evening before, as I walked through at about 11:45 a hive of activity was taking place as the various restaurants transport stock and equipment to set up their stalls, this is 'Canarian' time after all. Some cook their tapas fresh at the stall whilst others perform and endless relay of trays from their restaurant. Each has it's own menu and individual way of preparing the dishes so for 1€ per dish plus 1€ for a glass of beer (either is optional) I spent a very pleasant afternoon in the sun talking to friends, sampling the wares from each stall and entertained firstly by the disco beat which was relayed throughout the square and the harbour, then by live traditional music song from a troupe of players and finally the performance of 'Batucada Blankisur' a local 'murga' – band street musicians - who paraded through the harbour to the plaza then performed several routines throughout the afternoon. If it all got to hot many locals went for a dip in the harbour between feasting and dancing. As the evening wore on the stalls closed down around 21:00 as the party transferred itself to the main plaza to be entertained by the band 'La Pachanga'. A temporary bar with tables and chairs and a 'burger' van ensured that the crowd remained refreshed as the regular bars and restaurants closed for the evening. Best of all – not a drop of rain in sight! I retired some time after midnight whilst the festivities continued until at least 02:00 Sunday morning. Oh! We have to do this all again next month too – what a life!
