A day out in Santa Cruz and Cirque de Soleil
Return: 111 [Los Cristianos, Las Americas] to Las Chafiras. Taxi to Los Abrigos [4.65€ after midnight].
The papers were full of the first visit to Tenerife by Cirque du Soleil who were performing at the Pabellón Santiago Martin, San Cristobal de la Laguna for a week. It looked exceedingly good so I decided to buy a ticket as I may not get the chance again. I was pleased when other folk from the village reported back that the show was amazing. I had booked the early performance to make travelling easier and was going with friends from Santa Cruz. The day before I was sitting haing a coffee in the 'Note de Caffe' when a lady asked if she could sit at my table as the others were full. We eventually got to chatting and it turned out that she was from Sweden, was only here for a week and had not really been anywhere though a friend had recommended she see la Laguna.
I told her about the 'Bono' ticket system and the various routes to Santa Cruz and beyond. As I was travelling up there the following day I decided that I could meet her in Golf del Sur and go the 115 route. This would afford the opportunity of a quick tour of some of the highlights of Santa Cruz and she could then travel on to la Laguna whilst I had lunch in the afternoon with my friends. We walked along past the museum, past the church and up to see the Carnival HQ before dropping back down through Plaza Candelaria and a coffee in the Plaza de Espania. She decided to carry on with the tour of Santa Cruz so I pointed out the walk along the seafront then took her up to the flower clock at the Parque where I left her to explore on her own as I headed back down to Calle Bethencourt Alfonso.
Having a little time to spare I thought that I would have a look at the Plaza Príncipe de Asturias where the craft fair had been during the festival of the 'Three Kings'. It was lovely and cool in the plaza and surrounded by a variety of trees so, as it turns out, this forms the main feature of this blog as no photography of any sort was permitted at the Cirque! I also discovered that there is a Museum of Modern Art just behind the plaza. After a very brief look inside I decided that I would have to explore this on another day. Rounding the corner I noticed that the shops have changed their displays as Carnival 2013 approaches. This takes place from 6th – 17th February and the theme this year is Bollywood.
After a very appetising lunch of fresh prawns cooked in garlic and oil, followed by chicken then avocado salad accompanied by a light Spanish sparkling wine we set off to the Cirque in la Laguna. I have included a couple of photographs of pages from the Canarian Weekly which you can zoom in to read all of the details of the history and workings of the 'Cirque du Soleil'. As I mentioned previously photography was not allowed but the performance which kept us all enthralled for over two hours was absolutely amazing. The technical effects, lighting and costume is spellbinding and the characters and performers have you in the palm of their hand from start to finish. There are no acts, the performance is fluid as the attractions, whether high-wire or clown ebb and flow as the show progresses to its climax.

Le conté sobre el sistema de 'Bono' billete y las distintas vías a Santa Cruz y más allá. Como yo estaba viajando hasta allí al día siguiente, decidí que podía encontrarse con ella en Golf del Sur y seguir la ruta 115. Esto brindará la oportunidad de un rápido recorrido por algunos de los aspectos más destacados de Santa Cruz y ella podría viajar a la Laguna mientras yo tuvimos el almuerzo en la tarde con mis amigos. Caminamos a lo largo de más allá del museo, delante de la iglesia y hacia arriba para ver la sede del carnaval antes de caer hacia abajo a través de la Plaza Candelaria y un café en la Plaza de Espania. Ella decidió seguir adelante con el viaje de Santa Cruz, así que señaló el paseo por el paseo marítimo y luego la llevó hasta el reloj de flores en el Parque donde dejé a explorar por su cuenta mientras me dirigía de vuelta a la Calle Alfonso Bethencourt.
Tener un poco de tiempo yo pensé que iba a echar un vistazo a la Plaza Príncipe de Asturias en la feria artesanal había sido durante la fiesta de los "Tres Reyes Magos. Fue encantador y fresco en la plaza y rodeado por una gran variedad de árboles así, como parece, esto constituye la característica principal de este blog como ninguna fotografía de cualquier tipo se permite en el Circo! También descubrí que hay un Museo de Arte Moderno, justo detrás de la plaza. Después de una mirada muy breve dentro decidí que tendría que explorar esta al otro día. Al doblar la esquina me di cuenta de que las tiendas han cambiado sus pantallas como Carnaval 2013 enfoques. Esto se lleva a cabo desde febrero 6 a 17 y el tema de este año es Bollywood.
Después de una comida muy apetitosa de gambas frescas cocinadas con ajo y aceite, seguido de ensalada de pollo y luego aguacate acompañado por una luz vino espumoso español nos pusimos en marcha para el Cirque en la Laguna. He incluido un par de fotografías de las páginas del semanario canaria que se puede acercar la imagen para leer todos los detalles de la historia y el funcionamiento del 'Cirque du Soleil'. Como he mencionado anteriormente la fotografía no estaba permitido, pero el rendimiento que nos mantuvo cautivado durante más de dos horas fue absolutamente increíble. Los efectos técnicos de iluminación y vestuario es fascinante y los personajes y artistas que tiene en la palma de su mano de principio a fin. No hay actos, el rendimiento es fluido como las atracciones, ya sea en la cuerda floja o payaso flujo y reflujo como el programa evoluciona a su punto culminante.
